Graduate Software Engineer, MSc in Applied Mathematics, University of Manchester
I work on the Features team as a front-end developer. Currently I am working as part of the Responsive-Rollout sub-team, we are responsible for making sure that all THG sites are fully responsive and can be used on mobile.
Being an incredibly fast growing multi-website online retailer, I always considered THG would be the best place to keep me engaged without having any boring days at work.
Graduate Software Engineer, BSc in Natural Science, University of Cambridge
I am a machine learning engineer in the Data Science team. My role means that I have to understand machine learning concepts and good software engineering practices. I’ve been working on projects to detect language and profanity.
The Accelerator was a great way to start my career and allowed me to learn not just about software engineering and programming, but also about computer science in general. As such, it has given me really strong foundations which have allowed me to learn a variety of programming languages, paradigms, and concepts. I’ve even used it personally to build my own Facebook messenger reminder bot (he now manages my projects and shopping list too).
Graduate Software Engineer, PhD in Biological Physics, University of Manchester
I am happy to join this program and start my work as a software engineer. From this program, I not only learned some basic knowledge of computer science, but also encountered practical skills at the industrial production level. During the 6-month time, I also had the opportunity to explore different directions and let me have a good understanding of software engineering.
You will have the opportunity to solve various problems in the way you desired. Get hands on and get start.
Graduate Linux and Virtualisation Engineer, BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Swansea University
I am Graduate software engineer currently focusing on front end. The languages that I am mainly working with are html, css, javascript and java. The work flow is varied, with some tasks taking a matter of hours and other weeks.
I would recommend the accelerator to anyone interested in becoming a software developer in the tech industry. Although it requires a lot of hard work and can be challenging at points, it definitely pays off as I now feel happy and confident working in my team and am able to contribute effectively.
Graduate Software Engineer, Bachelor degree in Geography, University of Manchester
Working at THG is exciting, because our web platform is so big and I’ve had the chance to work on loads of sites. I enjoy working in an environment with so many intelligent and driven people because there are always new projects and initiatives starting. Outside of my day to day work, I’ve been involved in starting the Women in Tech Lunch Club and I’ve also become an Accessibility Champion; helping to improve the accessibility on our websites.
The accelerator has given me the chance to work in an industry that would have not been available to me otherwise. It has also made me unafraid to keep on learning, I don’t shy away from problems I’m not familiar with! In short, the accelerator has equipped me with the skills I need to be a successful developer.
Graduate Software Engineer, MSc in Maths, University of Manchester
The fast paced nature of the role allows me to get exposure to many different technologies, good coding practices and large systems. I was given a lot of responsibility from the start, and had the opportunity to release live code within the first few weeks of working at THG.
Very intense but this business is quite different from previous internships, you get to work on real projects here, and feeling like your work actually matters makes you want to put in a lot more effort. You get a real sense of accomplishment when you see your code being used by thousands of users everyday.
